Rethinking Creativity

Theme: Measuring creativity – why curriculum, pedagogy and assessment need to go hand in hand and how we can do it now

Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director at Centre of Real-World Learning University of Winchester. In 2024 the global testing body PISA shared the results of the first ever test of Creative Thinking. If PISA can measure students’ creativity should schools also do this? Evidencing the progression of students’ creativity is an important task for teachers, raising the status of creative thinking, building understanding and improving the quality of teaching and learning. Bill shows practical examples of how formative assessment is an important part of good practices in schools and stress the inter-relationship between curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. The keynote is followed by a panel discussion together with Ronald Beghetto, Pinnacle West Presidential Chair and Professor, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, Arizona State University and Celeste O’Callaghan, Principal Officer in the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Unit in the Department of Education, Ireland. The discussion is moderated by Duncan Crawford, Senior Content Manager at OECD Education and Skills Directorate. Recorded at the conference Rethinking Creativity in Education – A Solution for 21st Century Challenges? arranged by Berättarministeriet and Karolinska Institutet, 20-21 November 2024.
